Overview
TabsPrompt ("the Extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and handle your information when you use our browser extension and related services.
1 Scope & Applicability
This Privacy Policy applies to the TabsPrompt browser extension and all associated services, including but not limited to the cloud-based archive, integrated search functionality, and future integrations with services such as but not limited to Apple or Microsoft login. By installing or using the extension, you agree to the terms outlined herein.
2 Information Collection
We collect only the minimal necessary information to operate TabsPrompt efficiently. When you authenticate using your Google account, we collect your name, email address, and unique user identifier. This enables cloud sync and user-specific features. Additionally, we store metadata related to your browser activity—such as tab titles, URLs, and timestamps—to support your personal archive.
3 Automatic Data Collection
TabsPrompt automatically collects anonymized technical data to ensure performance and stability. This includes your browser type and version, operating system, extension version, crash reports, and interaction data (e.g., which features are used most often).
4 Use of Collected Data
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To authenticate users via secure OAuth mechanisms
- To maintain your cloud archive and enable search
- To improve and personalize the user experience
- To ensure the extension works reliably and to debug technical issues
- To analyze feature usage trends to inform future development
5 Cookies & Tracking
TabsPrompt uses local storage and cookies solely for essential operations, such as maintaining login sessions, storing configuration settings, and tracking onboarding progress. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or behavioral ad technologies. Your browsing activity remains private and is never monetized.
6 Browser Permissions
TabsPrompt requires certain browser permissions in order to function effectively as your tab and workspace assistant. These permissions are requested at install time and are used solely to provide core functionality:
Permission | Purpose |
---|---|
tabs | To read tab metadata (title, URL) for organizing and archiving tabs |
tabGroups | To group tabs within the browser and restore them accurately |
storage | To store settings, local configuration, and usage flags within the browser |
unlimitedStorage | To allow persistent local storage without quota restrictions |
search | To allow the extension to perform search using the browsers' default search engine |
omnibox | To let users interact with the extension via the browser's address bar |
alarms | To run background cleanup or archiving tasks on a schedule |
favicon | To access and present website favicons |
identity | To authenticate users securely through OAuth (e.g., Google sign-in) |
We request only the permissions required to fulfill TabsPrompt's mission: to intelligently organize and simplify your browsing experience. These permissions are not used to access personal content on websites or collect unrelated browsing data.
You can review and manage permissions at any time via your browser's extension settings.
7 Security Measures
TabsPrompt encrypts all cloud-synced data in transit and at rest. Local data, including preferences and session data, is stored securely in your browser. Access controls are in place to restrict access to authorized users and systems only. Our team follows industry-standard security practices and routinely audits infrastructure for vulnerabilities.
8 Sharing & Disclosure
TabsPrompt does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share your data with third-party service providers (e.g., cloud hosting, analytics platforms) strictly for the purpose of delivering our core functionality. We may also disclose data if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal processes.
9 Data Retention
Your data is retained only as long as necessary to provide our services. Cloud-based archives are preserved until you manually delete them or request account deletion. Locally stored data will persist until the extension is removed from your browser. Anonymized usage data is retained for no more than 90 days for analytical and performance monitoring.
10 User Rights
You have the right to access, update, or delete your personal data stored with TabsPrompt. You can request data deletion by contacting our support team.
11 Location and Processing
TabsPrompt operates from servers located in the United States and may process your information in other countries where we or our subprocessors operate.
12 Children & COPPA
TabsPrompt is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we discover that we have inadvertently gathered data from a minor, we will delete that data promptly. Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided personal information should contact us immediately.
13 Policy Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you within the extension or via email, if applicable. Continued use of the extension after such changes constitutes your agreement to the new terms.
